Written by Kay Millican, Fourth Dan Black Belt
This article provides detail about the benefits of Poomsae (also known as Forms or Patterns). |
KMAA Forms
For Pandas students (3-4 years) and beginner Tigers (5-7 years) before students are ready to learn Poomsae, KMAA has developed the following stationary forms: Hand Strike Form, Double Hand Strike Form and Elbow Strike Form.
Students learn blocks and strikes, but instead of moving in different directions, which can be confusing for young students, these forms are performed on the spot. Videos are available via YouTube below: Hand Strike Form Double Hand Strike Form Elbow Strike Form White Belt Form
Poomsae Links
Below are some external video links to help with your Poomsae (Forms/Patterns).
These are guides to help you with learning the direction of the patterns, however do not rely on these videos as your primary information for forms, as some techniques change throughout time.
For more information or details go to the Forms Encyclopedia. This has videos, detailed instructions and general knowledge about Poomsae. Why do we give out coloured stripes?
