At the Korean Martial Arts Academy, we do our best to support our local community by donating to charities, raising awareness of important issues, and providing services to disadvantaged groups.
PINK MONTH
Every year in October, KMAA turns PINK to raise money for breast cancer research.
Our team make and sell pink belts for our students to wear throughout the month.
The last week in October is Dress Up Week. Students can come dressed up as their favourite superhero, princess, character or completely in pink.
All money donated is sent to the Cancer Council ACT to assist them in their research. In our annual fundraising from October 2013 to November 2024, KMAA has raised $16,074.30 in total SO FAR!

RELAY FOR LIFE
In 2022, Team KMAA participated in Relay for Life to raise money for the Cancer Council. Our fundraising goal was $1500, and in the end we raised an incredible $2141 thanks to the generous support of the KMAA Community. On the day, we not only walked the track, but also did a Martial Arts demonstration with students of all ages and belt levels. We are looking forward to attending Relay for Life again next year where we will try to beat our new fundraising record! |
PINK BELT SCHOLARSHIP
KMAA is proud to support the Pink Belt Project, an initiative by The Mortal Mouse (Taekwondo blogger) in partnership with Australian Taekwondo. KMAA has offered a club-sponsored Pink Belt Scholarship in 2020, 2021 and in 2022, covering all expenses associated with a year of training for women in need. Applications for Pink Belt Scholarships open in October each year. |
PROGRAM FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES
KMAA's Senior Chief Instructor Mr. James Tallon (Sir) runs a regular program at the Belconnen Community Centre tailored for people living with a mild to moderate disability.
In late 2019, the team at Belconnen Community Service achieved the ACT Chief Minister's Inclusion Award for Excellence in Inclusive Services and Disability Support. This award recognised Belconnen Community Service as an organisation which demonstrated excellence in providing services that promote inclusion, and respond to the needs and aspirations of people with disability. Sir has proudly supported our local community with this program for over four years.

BUNNINGS FUNDRAISING FOR WIRES
In January 2020, volunteers from KMAA ran a Bunnings sausage sizzle to raise money for WIRES (Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation) following the devastating bushfires. Through our fundraising, we are proud to say we raised $400 which was donated to WIRES.
