How do I get started?
Make an enquiry to watch or participate in a trial lesson with us. You can also call us on (02) 6251 9848 during our business hours to book your complimentary trial class. What are the benefits of martial arts at KMAA? KMAA's carefully structured classes incorporate the Taekwondo Tenets as well as all martial arts values; respect, discipline, courtesy and integrity. KMAA provides students with a safe, friendly and supportive atmosphere where they can: - Develop greater concentration and focus, - Enhance and improve muscle tone, flexibility & fitness levels, - Learn life-long practical self-defence skills, - Learn techniques to help with stress management, and - Have an opportunity for the whole family to learn something new together. What do I wear to my lessons? Will I have to buy a uniform? For your first trial lesson, we recommend wearing loose clothing (i.e. t-shirt, and shorts or tracksuit pants) as you will be doing activities that require free movement and minimal restrictions. Upon signing up as a member of the Korean Martial Arts Academy, you will be provided with your complimentary uniform and you will receive your first belt. Our Academy has specialised, safety mat flooring designed to assist your training by absorbing impact, because of this, you are able to train without shoes and socks. Can anyone start? I'm worried that I will be the lowest one in my class? KMAA's classes are tailored to suit a wide range of abilities. Each program is specifically designed on age and ability level, ranging from beginners to advanced Black Belts. Our beginners classes focus on the basics of Taekwondo to ensure all our students receive a strong foundation of martial arts. Beginner classes are always open for enrolment, so now is the perfect time to start martial arts classes. I have done martial arts before, do I need to start from white belt? We welcome students who have trained in Taekwondo and other martial arts disciplines. Depending on your previous length of training and ability, we can arrange a Recognition of Prior Learning so you will be placed in the most appropriate class and belt level for your ability. Is there space for parents to watch the class? Yes, KMAA operates out of a full-time well-appointed facility, with plenty of seating available to watch the class (and have a cup of tea or coffee!). KMAA is very welcoming, and we encourage parents and families to be a part of their child's training. Do classes still run over the holidays? Yes, the Korean Martial Arts Academy is open all throughout the year, including school holidays. We close for a short break over the Christmas/New Year period and close on ACT Public Holidays. What if I miss my regular class? At KMAA, we understand that life can be busy, kids get sick, and people go on holidays. We offer over 50 classes per week with plenty of options to make-up missed classes. Can my children attend class at the same time? Yes. Our most popular program is our Family classes, where students of all ages can train together. Families at KMAA find this is perfect for busy schedules, and also provides a beneficial activity the whole family can do together. Some families even get competitive with belt levels- with kids trying to beat Mum or Dad! What is included in my membership? Following your two complimentary trial lessons, a membership to KMAA includes all training fees, administration costs, new belts, all colour belt exams and your first martial arts uniform. Ongoing fees vary depending on the number of students training and how many classes a week they wish to complete. For more information on membership, please contact us.
